Macroscan of a bluebottle abdomen (Calliphora vomitoria)

Another test scan at 5x MAG - a bluebottles abdomen (Calliphora vomitoria) with a very even covering of hair (almost grid-like). The tiny trumpet-like posterior spiracles (breathing openings) of the fly are visible too. Macroscans can be either geometry based or splat based depending on the application - This version has been reconstructed as a splat. The best way to view them is in VR which is the native medium for 3d content imo. Macroscans have also been 3d printed in a collaboration with Mimaki.
